Captain's Reports 2 of 11

2. 3rd XI Captain's Report 2018

The 3rd XI started the season in high spirits with a new, young and dynamic skipper at the helm, Jamie Pompei. The new skipper would bring a lot of experience to the team.
The 3rd XI started off the season with 11 men most weeks, but when the club picked up so many injuries, they really struggled to get a side out some weeks. All season we battled hard in some extreme weather and against some formidable opponents.

The majority of sides the 3rd XI met were too strong for them. Despite this, the team never once moaned and they fought hard all season. They fielded a mixture of youth, middle-aged, to a 67-year-old in the side most weeks.

Among the captain’s highlights were watching the young colts grow in stature as the season went on. There were some fine performances from the colts with bat and ball. Oscar Powell carried on where he left off last season with the ball, and showed us how much he had improved with the bat this season. Drew Churchwell was a new find for the club and what a promising player he is! He can bat and bowl and can field as well. Freddie Good grew with the ball in hand as the season went on and his batting was improving markedly too.

A special mention goes to Dan Reeves for a fine 50 against a very strong Egham side, which at least gave us something to bowl at.

Thank you to Dan Reeves and Alan Moffat for all their hard work and helping with skippering duties when Jamie was away.
