The opening partnership of 52 between Garry Foreman and Ed Drew got a quick 52 exploiting gaps because Kempton started with only 9 players. We lost our way in the middle skying catches as our top batters misjudged the pace of the wicket. We also needed to put more pressure on the fielders. Several good shots only went for singles when doubles were needed. Simon Drew, Adam Hart, Josh Maguire and Woo Powell added some good runs. WV finished on 122-6 roughly 1 a ball which is defendable if you get early wickets and bowl well.
Oscar Powell bowled excellently at the start but a few big 6s put Kempton Tigers in the striking orange and blue kit in command.
3 very good catches were taken by Garry Foreman diving backwards at deep mid off, Ed Drew on the deep leg side boundary and by Sam Buckell behind the stumps showed the team at its best. There was one bit of outstanding ground fielding by Steve Hart which lifted the spirits in the field.
The calm and encouraging leadership by Josh Maguire helped the team battle well in the field in a difficult defence.
We need to aim to score 150 in T20s. We need to work on our judgement of the pace of the wicket and look for more gaps in the field and turn some of those easy singles into 2s.
