An update from Club Captain - Graham Hills

Hopefully everyone is looking forward to and will get increasingly excited about our upcoming centenary season.

The installation of our fabulous new cricket nets will be a springboard to keep growing our club and setting us up for the years to come.

With that in mind we want to make sure you all know about the opportunities there will be to learn and play cricket at the Vandals.

We shall be increasing the number of teams again this coming season, and we hope to attract new players into our junior, youth and senior sections.

In junior cricket we shall have:

  • U9’s + U11s + U12s (boys & girls) practicing and playing mostly on Sunday mornings, starting mid to late April
  • U14s (boys hardball cricket) practicing and playing mostly on Friday evening’s starting mid to late April
  • U14’s & upwards (Girls softball cricket) practicing and playing mostly on Sunday mornings, starting mid to late April.
  • And in addition to these we shall again be running the very popular All Stars (children aged 5-8) and Dynamos (children aged 8-11) programmes, running on Sunday mornings in May to June / early July.

For youth and senior cricket we shall have:

  • Surrey Trust Development squad (boys aged 15-18)
  • 3 Saturday youth/senior sides playing league cricket
  • Our Sunday XI, playing competitive friendly cricket
  • ‘Back to Cricket’ nets and games for lapsed cricketers who would like to pull on their white’s again and give cricket another go
  • ‘T20’ and ‘Surrey SLAM’ teams playing midweek league and friendly matches

Coaching & Practice – Opportunities for coaching and practice will be in place for junior and senior players. We’ll post more detail early in the new year.

With the addition of our fabulous new nets facility at the ground, plus work we’ve completed on our Astro and grass pitches, we have excellent practice and playing facilities.

But we’re not waiting until next spring to get going…
Staring on Monday 8th January and running for 10 weeks (with a break for school half-term) we shall be running indoor practice and games at Halliford School.

These will run between 6pm to 9pm, and we’ll publish the schedule for each age group via our website and in further club news updates.

Register your interest: If you would like to take up any of these opportunities for yourself, your family and/or a friend or colleague, please either:

Can you help?: With all these exciting opportunities on the go we’d always like to grow our squad of volunteers.

You don’t need to be a cricket coach or even a player to help out. We’re just keen to be able to draw on the skills and experiences across all the things which go into running a thriving cricket club.

So if you could lean in and help with anything ranging from a bit of handywork (such as helping out with a tin of paint & a brush) to sponsorship & fundraising or communications, social media & advertising please do give Graham Hills a call (see contact details above).

And finally… we’d like to give a BIG shout out to our brand new Girls U14 team who’ve been playing in the Surrey Cricket Foundation indoor softball league.

After winning their very 1st match, they’ve gone on to win 3 out of their 6 league games. This is a tremendous result and it’s been great to see them having such a good time, making new friends and developing new cricket and team skills. Thanks too to Liz Singleton for being at the helm and to all the parents for supporting the girls every week.

If your daughter would like to get involved please call Liz on 07932 476690 or send an email with your contact details to cricket@weybridgevandalscc.com
