5fer sets up crushing win

The Rogers made the relatively short trip to top of the table Wandgas confident with what looked a pretty strong line up.

After waiting 30mins to get access to the changing rooms captain Randall lost the toss and was surprised to be asked to bowl first, but thoroughly delighted. Tribey opened the bowling, buoyed by the midweek repair of his leaking caravan roof, and immediately created danger. The Wandgas openers were looking to play shots from the off and Randall opened from the other end. A few early loose shots saw some early runs but soon Tribe tempted the opener into a shot well caught by Peacock. No3 was dropped by Big Al at slip second ball (watch this space) before playing 2 of the most awful industrial heaves off the Molesey Express for 7 runs.

Randall was having little luck at the other end but Tribe then got ‘Cammack’ who hit the ball above a passing hot air balloon and slightly above the height of Burj Khalifa but Hall positioning himself well to comfortably catch the towering strike. Tribe continued to cause problems and delightfully bowled his third before Peacock took another nice catch at mid on taking a very firmly hit ball on the dive. He completed his Michelle in his final over with the ageing Roche taking one behind the stumps.

Some Lording had begun at the other end and he was very unlucky to bowl his 9 overs with no reward after many near misses and another drop from Big Al at slip (keep watching this space). Young Zachy replaced the Tit and delivered first ball with Roche taking another behind. Further wickets with a nice catch at slip by Hollo and a wicked bowled ‘slower’ ball saw Wandgas floundering around 75-8 (amongst this a third slip drop by Big Al). No10 looked a better bat than many before and a small recovery began but then good work from Lord & Zach saw a run out.

V’s were eager to end things but were frustrated by a 20+ partnership for the last wicket but eventually Ed ended things with Big Al finally catching one. The tea lady was late so Wandgas tried to get us to go back out but Randall showed firmness and refused so after a short wait tea was taken. A good selection of sandwiches (egg, chicken & sweetcorn, tuna & sweetcorn, prawn, cheese & pickle) was well accompanied by some decent cake offerings (Mr Kipling apple pies always a bonus) and overall a solid 6.5/10.

Ageing Roche & Peacock strode out to the middle and rarely looked in any trouble seeing off the 2 openers with some nice defence (are you watching Wandgas!) and nice deflections and a few boundaries. The change bowlers were well milked and occasionally spanked and it came as some surprise when Roche was caught behind down the leg side with the score on 99. Vip joined Peacock who marched onto 63 not out and saw us home with over 20 overs to spare and by 9 wickets.

Some candidates for MOM with Zachy bowling very nicely, Roche keeping well and batting positively and Drew Peacock batting beautifully but as it set everything up for the day and with figures of 9 overs 5-28 the award goes to the Tribester.

Well played all ???
